NEHA began a newsletter shortly after formation in the 1960's which eventually became to be called The Historiographer. A quarterly, feature focused newsletter, it is published the first month of each calendar quarter to promote the preservation of church records and the writing of parochial and diocesan history in the Episcopal Church. In 1999 it became a joint publication with the Historical Society of the Episcopal Church (HSEC) as a benefit of membership and in 2018 with the Episcopal Women's History Project. Back issues are made publicly available two years following publication.
Content |
The Historiographer publishes articles dealing with the history of congregations, dioceses, ministries, liturgy, spirituality, art and architecture, and of significant persons of the Episcopal Church; as well as the composition and preservation of congregational and diocesan historical records. Articles addressing the historical impact of social, cultural and religious issues on the Episcopal Church are also accepted. Members of NEHA, HSEC and EWHP are encouraged to submit material for publication. Non-member submissions are welcome. Material should be submitted at least two months in advance of publication. Feature article contributors receive three complimentary copies of the issue in which their article appears.
Copy should be in an engaging, feature magazine style rather than academic. It should tell a good story, lend itself to possible illustration, and appeal to a broad audience. It should be written for persons serving or having served as archivists and historians of Episcopal congregations or dioceses, or for persons with knowledge of and interest in the history of the Episcopal Church.
Word length depends on the type of article.
